Have you heard of Trader Joe’s? I’m sure you have, but the news is that it’s opening 8 new stores in different states of the U.S. The expansion will happen before the end of this summer, and there are already specific addresses published on its official website.

The news has caught many people’s attention because the brand is very popular among consumers. In fact, some Trader Joe’s customers commented on Reddit that it has better quality than Walmart. So, let’s find out more about this decision of opening more stores.

Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s is a grocery store chain founded in 1967 in California by a man named Joe Coulombe. At the time, he owned a small chain of convenience stores, but he realized he couldn’t compete with larger chains on price alone. So instead of trying to be bigger, he decided to be different by:

  • Selling unique products people couldn’t easily find elsewhere.
  • Focusing on private-label items (products under the Trader Joe’s name).
  • Creating a store that felt friendly and fun instead of corporate and cold.

Today, Trader Joe’s operates hundreds of stores across the United States and continues to expand, as seen in the recent announcement of eight new locations across seven states.

What’s exactly happening?

Trader Joe’s has confirmed the opening of 8 new stores this year. Even though two locations had already been published, this week the company added 6 more new locations on its website. So, let’s have a look at all 8 stores that will be opened this year:

  • Arizona: Tucson — 2150 E. Broadway Boulevard
  • Florida: West Palm Beach — 8111 S. Dixie Highway
  • Georgia: Johns Creek — 1000 Medley Road
  • Kansas: Merriam — 8700 Shawnee Mission Pkwy
  • Louisiana: New Orleans — 2428 Napoleon Ave, and Mandeville — 3377 U.S. Highway 190
  • Texas: McKinney West — 8101 Eldorado Pkwy
  • Washington: Woodinville — 14035 NE Woodinville Duvall Road

When will they open?

A representative from Trader Joe’s spoke to Nexstar and explained what typically happens after a location appears on the “Opening Soon” page: the store normally opens to the public between 3 and 6 months later.

This means that the new stores could start receiving customers within this period of time. They didn’t give any specific dates, but the estimated period is already confirmed by the company.

More stores in the future?

Yes, there will be more Trader Joe’s stores. The company is constantly looking for new locations. According to Trader Joe’s spokesperson, they are analyzing hundreds of neighborhoods in the entire country with the intention to open more stores every year.

This indicates the expansion is not limited to these 8 stores only, but it’s part of a continuous plan of growth in the U.S.

Walmart vs. Trader Joe’s

We have previously mentioned that one Trader Joe’s customer commented on Reddit that this store had better quality than Walmart, so let’s see some differences between these two stores:

Store Trader Joe’s Walmart
Price Mid-range Very low
Selection Smaller, curated Huge variety
Shopping Experience Cozy, neighborhood Big, one-stop shop
Unique Products Lots Fewer
Everyday Essentials Some All

So…

If you live in one of the cities mentioned, this expansion could directly affect you because a new Trader Joe’s store may soon open near your neighborhood, bringing another grocery option within easy reach. Is this good news for you? I’m sure many people will appreciate these openings and have the chance to have this store closer to them.
