SSA’s payment system follows a simple rule, where the deposit date for most Social Security beneficiaries depends o the day of the month they were born, with payments falling on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of each month.
Knowing the dates is key for Social Security beneficiaries, as services have been maintained despite the government shutdown, but there have been problems with face-to-face service in its offices.
Who gets Social Security benefits?
Social Security benefits are paid to a diversity of some groups of people and who have their own history. The principal beneficiaries are retirees, but it is relevant to note that they are not the only ones who get monthly payments from the SSA. Here is a list of those beneficiaries:
- Older people and retirees: They worked and paid Social Security taxes and currently they receive monthly payments after retirement.
- People with disabilities: People who are not able to work because of a serious, long-term medical condition and who meet the SSA’s requirements for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
- Spouses or ex-spouses (including divorced spouses).
- Survivors (widows/widowers, children) of a worker who died and who were entitled to receive Social Security benefits.
How Social Security payments are made
Social Security payments are carried out according to the birth date of the beneficiary. The day on which the person was born will stablish the date on which they will receive their monthly payments as follows. Firstly, if you were born between the 1st and 10th of any month, you will gwt your payment on the second Wednesday of each month. On the other hand, in the case you were born between the 11th and 20th, you will receive your payment on the third Wednesday.
