The popular department store chain JCPenney, which has more than 640 locations, is ready to make some changes this year 2026. Some of the updates include special promotions, new home collections, discounts, and also the closure of a store. JCPenney is doing this to catch customers’ attention since other companies like Bath & Body Works, Marshalls, and Target are also making some changes. So, let’s find out more about what JCPenney is going to do this year.

JCPenney changes

One of the most important changes is a special promotion called ‘’Valentine’s Exchange’’. During Valentine’s Day, customers can bring an old piece of jewelry — even one connected to a past relationship — and exchange it for a new necklace with a lab-grown diamond set in gold over silver. However, the offer is limited: only the first 100 customers at the main store of Garden City (New York) and the first 50 in other participating locations will be able to claim the offer. The great thing about this is that the jewelry collected will be donated to Good360, a nonprofit organization that gives items a second life by distributing them where they are needed.

Also, JCPenney offers another promotion called ‘’Perfect Ex-Cuse Discount’’, which includes discounts up to 70% on jewelry. Customers with a JCPenney Credit Card can receive an additional 30% discount, while other shoppers can get an extra 25% off selected styles using the code “EXCUSE.” If you are interested in this promotion, you should hurry because it runs through February 16.

The company is also running other general sales events, including an extra 30% off select styles during certain periods. These discounts apply to a wide range of items such as clothing for women, men, kids, and babies, as well as home products, shoes, bags, coats, and more.

New Home collections

JCPenney is putting its faith in new home items, and one of the main collaborations is with Jenny Martinez, chef and content creator with millions of followers on TikTok. Her collection includes items inspired by her personal lifestyle and her cultural background.

Among the items that you could buy, there are patterned bedding, decorative pillows, throws, bath essentials, and kitchen items like stainless steel and cast-iron cookware. Some items start at about $15, and a few sale prices are as low as $8.09.

Wait, there’s more! In addition to this partnership, JCPenney is introducing another home collection called Laura Ashley Home into physical stores for the first time. This brand is known for its British countryside style, featuring floral designs, soft pastel colors, and layered textures in bedding and bath products. Previously, these items were sold only online through JCPenney, but now customers will be able to see and touch them in person. Now, let’s talk about the prices for this collection: in general they range from around $30 to $500, and some items, such as pillowcases, are available at discounted prices during current sales.

Stores closing and the retail industry context

Not all the news is positive. A JCPenney store located at the Stoneridge Shopping Center in Pleasanton, California, is scheduled to close this month because the company could not continue its lease or find a suitable new location in the area. So, if you live in that region, you will need to shop at nearby stores in cities like San Jose, Santa Rosa, Fairfield, Hayward, Concord, or Antioch.

It’s important to mention that many major retailers have been closing stores or facing financial challenges, like: Macy’s, Forever 21, CVS, Walgreens, Party City, GameStop, Dollar General, Claire’s, Carter’s, and Joann Fabrics. These closures often happen because businesses want to reduce costs, improve profitability, or adjust to changing shopping habits.

So…

You have many collections and promotions to choose from at JCPenney, will you visit one of their stores and have a look at their discounts?
