Iron Man’s car
In 2012, The Avengers was released and it’s a key movie for Marvel because it brought some of the most important superheroes together for the first time in cinema. Among them we could see Iron Man, also known as Tony Stark, who is very smart, has the most advanced technology, and loves exclusive items.
To introduce this character in the movie, the director Joss Whedon decided to show Tony Stark talking to S.H.I.E.L.D. while driving a striking and futuristic car: a one-of-a-kind Acura NSX.
It’s true this scene is very short, but that brief moment was enough to turn the vehicle into a legendary object for Marvel fans.
The Acura NSX
This car is not only popular for being part of The Avengers, but also because there’s no other car like it. Even though on the outside seems like a modern Acura NSX, it actually hides an important secret.
The bodywork is not from a real modern NSX, it is a handcrafted shell made from resin and fiberglass, designed to imitate the newer version of the model. This custom body was then placed on top of a real first-generation Acura NSX from 1991.
So, the Iron Man car is a mix of both worlds:
- A modern, movie-ready design that fits Tony Stark’s personality.
- A real classic sports car underneath, with a long and respected history.

The 1991 Acura NSX used as the base for this vehicle is not just any car. It’s a very important car in the automotive industry because it was a revolutionary model at the time and there’s one detail that will increase even more its value: Ayrton Senna, one of the most famous and respected Formula 1 drivers of all time, helped fine-tune this original NSX model.
Although the car shows 405,555 kilometers on its dashboard, the interior remains in excellent condition. It does not show the heavy wear that people might expect after so many kilometers, which speaks to how well it has been preserved.
Also, there are small design touches inside the car. For example, the central interior panel is painted in the same dark red color as the exterior, giving the cabin a refreshed and more modern look.
The car actually works
Opposite to other objects from movies that are only props and can’t be used in real life, this Iron Man Acura NSX can be driven. This makes it even more special. The car includes:
- A suspension lowered by 5 centimeters.
- 18-inch wheels.
A special auction
The car was displayed at Park City, Utah, during the Sundance Film Festival (an event supporting independent filmmakers). The auction took place during the annual charity event at the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley, and it was handled by Cars & Bids.
One very important detail is that the money raised from the sale will go to a charitable cause chosen by the winning bidder. This adds a meaningful and positive element to the sale, connecting the world of Iron Man and Marvel with real-world generosity.
