The iPhone 17 and 17 Pro have only been on the market for three months. And, as always, we’ll have to wait until Fall next year to see what Tim Cook and the company have in store for us with the next model. However, as is usual with Apple products, there is great interest in finding out in advance what new features next year’s model will bring.
If you are one of those people who have not purchased this 2025 model because it does not offer many new features compared to the previous one, this rumor we are about to tell you will be of interest to you. Apparently, the next iPhone 18 is going to be revolutionary. At least in terms of aesthetics.
Goodbye to Dynamic Island in 2026?
We don’t know exactly how Apple is doing with the new iPhone 17. But the truth is that, by repeating the design, there has been no shortage of criticism of the Cupertino company for its lack of innovation. According to a recent leak in Apple’s supply chain, we have been able to find out what features next year’s model may include. And, according to the sources of the leak, everything points to the iPhone 18 undergoing a drastic change in terms of its design.
The most relevant point of this information is that Apple would put an end to Dynamic Island in 2026. This feature, which was introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro as an elegant way to hide the notch, would be eliminated forever in the iPhone 18. Apparently, Apple has finally managed to place all the Face ID sensors behind the screen. This was not impossible until now, as some manufacturers working with Android had already done so in advance.
We assume that Apple did not implement these sensors under the screen because of their lower accuracy. Remember that the entire security of the iOS ecosystem relies on this face verification system, so it must be highly accurate to be secure.
Instead of Dynamic Island, the iPhone 18 and 18 Pro are expected to have just a circular hole in the front for the camera. It would have a design identical to some of the Samsung or even OnePlus models that have been on the market for a few years. In short, it would have a front that would be almost entirely screen.
Other iPhone 18 leaks
In this leak, it is rumored that the A20 chip that will be used in the iPhone 18 Pro will have a 2nm lithography. This reduction in transistor size would result in less heat and longer battery life. In addition, we assume that the phone will be much more capable of performing artificial intelligence tasks.
Speaking of Apple Intelligence, the leak also suggests that the future iPhone will have more RAM. With 12 or more gigabytes of memory, the device could run more artificial intelligence tasks locally without relying on the cloud. However, with the current severe crisis in the world of RAM, we must be cautious with this information. If the memory shortage is not resolved within a few months, this prediction may not come true. Or, at least, not without a significant increase in the price of the iPhone.
The latest leaked information suggests that the iPhone 18 could have variable aperture cameras. This means that the cameras would have a diaphragm, or iris. This improvement would reduce the amount of light entering the camera in situations where there is sufficient lighting to improve the sharpness of shots and depth of field.
This feature has always been present in compact, SLR, and mirrorless cameras. However, it is not as common in mobile devices. Samsung was the first company to implement a variable diaphragm in the Galaxy S9, back in 2018. However, in models from the Galaxy S10 onwards, this feature was removed. We do not know if this was due to lack of usefulness or cost reduction.
It is possible that Apple wanted to implement this feature now that Xiaomi and Huawei have opted for variable aperture systems in their cameras, which are very advanced and offer outstanding results.
