If, for some strange reason, you needed to buy a two-meter teddy bear or an industrial-sized box of chocolates on Christmas Day at Costco (maybe you forgot a present, or need a break from your family gathering), we have bad news for you. Just like on Thanksgiving Day, Costco has announced that (like every year) all its locations will remain closed in the United States. They may have a business model based on exclusive memberships, incredibly affordable prices, and ginormous formats, but that doesn’t mean they won’t let their employees spend time Christmas with their families. Costco’s CEO is not the Grinch, after all.
Costco shall remain closedd on December 25, but that doesn’t mean it cannot be the perfect solution for your overwhelming Christmas dinner! If you don’t feel like slaving away like a frenzied reclusive in the kitchen—honestly, who wants to do that?— Costco is offering its complete gourmet Christmas dinner, now available for reservation.
Costco at Christmas
Unlike other retail giants that squeeze every last minute out of sales, Costco has always preferred to close on this holiday. While other competitors have historically opened with limited hours, Costco chooses to close its doors completely. Forget about running around in circles at their location looking for the last can of cranberry sauce; they prefer to value their employees’ time with their loved ones. Christmas Day is one of seven federal holidays that Costco marks in red on its calendar in the United States. We warn you now that Costco won’t open on New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving either.
But don’t worry, the closure will only last for one day. The stores will reopen on Friday, December 26th. In fact, the stores will reopen ready to welcome anyone who needs to make returns or take advantage of the end-of-year sales.
You may not be able to go to Costco on December 25 to buy those popcorn tins you forgot until the last minute, but you can delegate your entire Christmas dinner to Costco… That way, you’ll know you haven’t forgotten a thing (except setting the table, that is). Unlike standard supermarket menus, this one has a much more gourmet touch, already presented in aluminum trays, ready for heating. Even your snobby food lover relavites will be impressed with this meny.
Costco’s Gourmet Holiday Menu
This isn’t just a turkey, but a complete feast designed to serve eight people. For a price ranging from $200 to $249 USD (depending on this year’s exact selection), you’ll get a hearty menu, perfect for ensuring no one goes hungry and leaving enough leftovers to make those glorious post-Christmas sandwiches. The main course is usually a high-quality, antibiotic-free roasted turkey breast (or sometimes a spiral ham or prime rib option). No more fighting with the oven for 6 hours or praying that the meat won’t dry out. This year, you can forget about all that kitchen frenze; all plates comes ready to heat up in the oven aand serve in their trays.
The other side dishes usually are:
- A tray of crème fraîche mashed potatoes (4 lbs.),
- Turkey gravy (Wait… make that lots of gravy),
- Traditional stuffing (2 lbs.),
- Tray of Brussels sprouts or Green Beans casserole,
- Cranberry relish,
- Gourmet dinner rolls,
- Two pies: Often Pumpkin Pie and an Apple Pie (because one is never enough).
Ain’t that appetizing? If you’re interested in this menu, you should hurry up and order it online at Costco.com before it sells out (which usually happens in mid-December). It is shipped completely frozen from their warehouses to your doorstep via FedEx/UPS. All you have to do is thaw it in the refrigerator a couple of days before and bake it according to the instructions.
If you still have flashbacks to Vietnam of how you spent Christmas Eve slaving away in the kitchen, only for your family to complain that the sauce was cold, it seems like a very affordable price to pay $200 and not have to worry about the menu. As always, Costco comes in handy!
