If you could book a vacation anywhere unthinkable, where would you go? Maybe the Moon? Yeah, this is real. A Silicon Valley company stated that it’s accepting bookings for what they call ‘’the first lunar hotel’’, which will be ready by 2032. Do you want to know more about this vacation on the Moon? Let’s find out more information about this project, and who knows if you could be one of those enjoying the lunar hotel. So, let’s get started!

Vacations on the Moon

A Silicon Valley startup called Galactic Resource Utilization Space (GRU) has started accepting bookings for the first hotel on the Moon. The founder of the project is Skyler Chan, a young entrepreneur from California who studied in Berkeley. According to his idea, super-wealthy people could stay on the lunar surface inside specially designed modules.

The company stated that by 2032 this hotel could already start receiving travellers, although that’s just a plan for now. How much is it? That’s something we will tackle a bit later because it doesn’t cost thousands of dollars…

Who’s behind the project?

What’s more, GRU says that they have the support of important investors, among them there are people related to companies like SpaceX, Nvidia and defense technology company Anduril. Some people see this project as another overly ambitious tech fantasy.

Chan said that we live in an ‘’inflection point’’ where humanity could become an interplanetary species before the current generation dies. He believes that if the project is successful, billions of human lives could even be born on the Moon and Mars. You can see this project is very ambitious.

What can we expect from this hotel?

According to the company, the hotel will start as an inflatable habitat designed on Earth. Then, it will be taken to the Moon to install it there. The first modules would be small and could host just a few guests for multi-days stays.

The most interesting part is the list of activities they promise you could do there, such as:

  • Moonwalks.
  • Rover drivers.
  • Views of Earth from the lunar surface (described almost like a sci-fi travel brochure).

Over time, in theory, they want to expand the facilities using lunar soil and automated construction techniques, creating stronger and more permanent structures.

Money

What most people want to know is how much would people have to pay to go on vacation to the lunar hotel? Are you ready? Just to book your stay you need a deposit of $1 million to make sure you have your spot, but it’s estimated that the final cost of the stay is over $10 million. This means that not everybody could have the chance to enjoy these vacations, only a very small and very wealthy group of potential customers.

Unfortunately, there’s no information about more affordable alternatives or whether the price could lower at some point in the future.

To sum up

I know this news is kind of crazy and exciting, but Galactic Resource Utilization Space is making many people’s dreams come true: going on vacation to the Moon.

And now it’s your turn to think about it: can you imagine planning a vacation where “packing light” suddenly means preparing for lunar gravity? Whether this feels thrilling, unbelievable, or just wildly expensive, one thing is certain — the idea of vacations beyond Earth is no longer just something from a sci-fi movie. It’s officially on the table, deposits and all.

If you had the money to pay for it, would you go to this lunar hotel? I mean, not everybody could say ‘’I went to the Moon on vacation,’’ right?
